Ashizawa Named Chair at Galveston
Dr. Tetsuo Ashizawa has been named Chair of the Department of Neurology at University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston. Dr. Ashizawa is currently Professor of Neurology at the Baylor College of Medicine, where he has been on the faculty since 1978. His research focuses on clinical and genetic aspects of neuromuscular diseases. He is widely published and has won many awards for his research. Dr. Ashizawa states: “My goals as chair will be to develop strong basic research programs in the department and integrate them with the Neurosciences Program of the school and to strengthen clinical care of patients by developing expertise in neurological subspecialties focusing on key disorders. I will also reinforce the educational programs. Within 5 years, I hope to make the Department at UTMB one that is internationally recognized for basic and clinical research, for specialized clinical expertise, and for neurological education.”

Kimford J. Meador, MD, Named Chairman at Georgetown
Dr. Kimford Meador has been named Chairman of the Department of Neurology at Georgetown University, effective August 1, 2002. Dr. Meador has been at the Medical College of Georgia since 1984, where he was Professor of Neurology and Pharmacology/ Toxicology. He has authored more than 200 publications in the areas of pharmacology and physiology of cognition, mechanisms of attention and memory, cerebral lateralization, neglect syndrome, epilepsy, and dementia. He is a Fellow of the American Neurological Association, Chair of the Section of Behavioral Neurology of the American Academy of Neurology, President of the Society for Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology, and President-Elect of the Southern EEG & Epilepsy Society.
